Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance?
We accept HSA and FSA. Upon request, a superbill can be provided. Patients are seeing anywhere from 25% to 100% reimbursement depending on the insurance company. We do not work with insurance companies directly due to the specialized nature of our care offerings.
How long are your sessions?
Your first visit is one hour so that we can do a thorough assessment of your health history and how that may be affecting your current complaints. Follow-up visits are determined by the outcome of the first visit.
How many sessions can I expect?
Unlike most chiropractors, our goal is to get to the root of your problem in fewer visits. In most cases, we see full resolution of a primary complaint in 1-5 visits.
How do you treat hypermobile patients?
Individuals with hypermobility or EDS (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) have more elasticity to their tissues, which takes more time to treat similar pain presentations in non-hypermobile patients. This may require more visits to accomplish long-lasting results. Having treated many patients and Dr. Matt’s own family members who are hypermobile has driven him to develop a deeper understanding of how to treat individuals with hypermobility.
Should I do anything to prepare for my visit?
Please make sure that you have filled out the intake forms that were emailed to you upon appointment scheduling. It is important that you are as thorough as possible including information about any past injuries that hurt for 3 weeks or longer as well as any broken bones or previous surgeries.
What is fascia?
Fascia consists of multiple collagen sheets separated by a fluid, called extracellular matrix, acting as a lubricant. It surrounds every fiber of a muscle as well as the connection between muscles. It also surrounds and suspends our organs, nerves, and vessels.
This is a chiropractic clinic, do you adjust?
Since joints cannot get stuck in space without an outside force like restricted tissues, we address the tissues first. If the joint is still restricted after treating the tissues an adjustment may be added to get full range of motion or to reduce pain. It is case-by-case dependent.
What is expected after treatment?
Points that we work on may be tender to the touch for 2- 3 days. Specific stretches and/or exercises may be prescribed to help this. Ice is not recommended during the healing phase, heat can be used if pain is still present after an initial 48 hours post-treatment. Anti-inflammatories are not recommended as we want the tissues to heal on a natural timeline.
My symptoms improved for two-plus weeks but now they're back, did the treatment not work?
Sometimes a treatment won't hold because there is residual tension elsewhere along the line that was not presenting itself during our treatment. This does not mean that the treatment didn't work, it's just that we didn't fully clear the line. One more quick session to fully clear things should help the treatment hold. Keep in mind that some exercises or body mechanics may be agitating or creating stress along your line of complaint, thus bringing back your issues. Being mindful of your movements and what may be triggering your complaint will help us to suggest follow-up exercises or stretches that can keep your body moving.
Do you help athletes perform better?
We often see improvements in strength, range of motion, and fine motor coordination with our treatment approach. This can often give athletes an edge in their performance, even if they are currently pain-free.
I’ve seen many specialists and no one seems to be able to help me. How are you different?
Using a technique with over 200 peer-reviewed articles, our diagnostic method gets to the root of what is causing your pain or dysfunction more efficiently. We use a scientific and personalized approach to develop a treatment plan that addresses your main complaint.
